HMRC states in CH160800, ‘the law says that insufficiency of funds is not a reasonable excuse unless the insufficiency is attributable to events outside the persons control’

Can HMRC ask you to withdraw an appeal?
The taxpayer has submitted an appeal against HMRC’s tax assessment. HMRC thinks the case is weak and asks the taxpayer/agent for further clarification of the grounds of appeal or to withdraw the appeal.

HMRC has been asking for direct access to accountancy softwares such as #QuickBooks and #Xero to access electronic records for tax investigations. This is a result of tax going digital.
